Your Child's First Day

Opening Hours/Term Times

The school is open Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 6pm Monday to Friday.  Term dates alter slightly each year.  The school will provide you with a newsletter which will detail term times for the forthcoming year and these are also always available on this website.

Before you arrive

Please ensure that you have read and understood all the information on this website.  Please feel free to ask any questions in advance.  We will require your completed admission forms in advance together with your deposit of £100 and your payment of a term's fees in advance. This does not apply for taster sessions which are free.  If you require a home cooked lunch for your child from their first day please let Miss Nicci know.

Supplied by Parents

Your child will need the following NAMED items in school from the first day.  You are welcome to leave any of these in school for your convenience:

  • Indoor Shoes
  • Wellingtons
  • Waterproof Coat
  • Change of Clothes
  • Toileting equipment e.g. nappies, wipes etc
  • Lunch in lunchbox and refrigerated items in separate named plastic bag.

As you arrive

Teachers are situated in the doorways to both the Big and Little Rooms as the children enter each morning to greet them as they arrive.  They are ready to start the session and so will be unavailable to talk to parents until after all the children have left at the end of each session.  Should you wish to discuss anything with the teachers we ask that you stay behind briefly at the end of your session for a chat.

Independence

It doesn't matter how long it takes your child to achieve independence in the following areas. All we ask is that they make steady progress towards these goals each session and that they are constantly praised by you for each achievement.  Please encourage your child to:

  • Take off their coat and hang it on their own peg by the hook on the coat
  • Take off their outdoor shoes, put them together under their peg
  • Put on their indoor shoes left under their peg from their last session
  • Put their lunchbox and book bag away on the appropriate shelves
  • Have a try on the loo as they arrive
  • Walk through to the Big Room to join the other children (without you)

Saying Goodbye

We ask that you work towards saying goodbye in the cloakroom area and encouraging your child to walk through independently to their room.  However, if your child is unsettled when you leave and you wish for reassurance, the teachers are happy to call you on the number you leave us at approx. 11am.

Book Bags

Each child will be given their own Park Pre-School book bag and they will be allowed to choose any book to take home.  We will change the book in the book bag once a week although parents are free to hange books with their child as often as they would like, simply by letting a teacher know which book they would like to take.  Should the free book bag be lost, there will be a charge of £5 for a replacement which will automatically be added to your next invoice.  Ideally, your child should bring in their book bag each session, as they are needed for taking artwork etc home.

Your Child's Own Possessions

Children are welcome to bring in a comforter if necessary, but we ask that steady progress is made towards them feeling that they can leave these behind as they get older. The children may also bring in items beginning with the 'sound of the week' for show and tell. We ask that no other toys or possessions be brought in at any time.  The reason we ask this is that we promote a culture of sharing and collective ownership of all resources within the school, which is undermined when children bring in their personal belongings.

Involvement of Parents

The school has an open policy and we welcome your help and skills in the school as a one off or as a regular occurrence.  We also welcome parental feedback and suggestions and we hold regular parent meetings and social events.
